Our 2016 Annual Spring Student Piano Recital in Natick MA for Children and Young Adults

Our annual Natick Studio recital, featuring 12 elementary, intermediate and advanced piano students was held on June 6, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Hartford Street Presbyterian Church in Natick, MA. Many friends and family members were in attendance.
This was the 33rd annual spring recital by students of the Ed Mascari Piano Studios!

Performing at this Natick MA children and young adults recital were students Daniel Ibraev, Fin Rando, Aidan Frias, Talia Salls, Jeffrey Tavares, Ally Yang, Matthew Tavares, Andrew Salls, CJ Anderson, Becca Johnson, Eugenia Kovtun and Quentin Putnam. Performances consisted of classical, jazz and popular selections as well a duets and even a flute and a trumpet solo.

The recital started off with a performance by Daniel Ibraev playing Good King Wenceslas, Hallowee’n Pumpkin French Folk Song and the perennial favorite Ode to Joy. Daniel followed this with a duet on the song Aura Lee performed with his teacher Ed Mascari. Eight year old Daniel Ibraev is in the 2nd grade at the Brown Elementary School Natick. Daniel’s other activates include playing the drums and the xylophone.

Fin Rando, a 7-year-old second grader at the Johnson Elementary School in Natick MA, was up next, performing Big Ships and She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain. Fin then performed two duets, Yankee Doodle and Old MacDonald Had a Farm with his teacher Ed Mascari. Fin has been taking lessons for a total of two years.

Next up was 10 year old, 4th grader Aidan Frias playing This Is My Planet Earth. She then performed a duet on Country Dance with her teacher Robert Canavello. Aidan has been taking lessons for 2 ½ years with Mr. Canavello at our Hudson MA Piano Studio. She also enjoys playing the recorder.

Aidan’s performance was followed by 10 year old Talia Salls playing a song made famous by Elvis Presley, Can’t Help Falling in Love. Talia is in the 4th grade at the Hemingway Elementary School Framingham MA. She has been taking lessons for 3 years at the Ed Mascari Piano Studios and also enjoys ballet and jazz dance.

Another 10 year old, Jeffrey Tavares was next playing Greatest Show on Earth and the Styx classic Come Sail Away. Jeffrey also attends the Hemingway Elementary in Natick MA and plays Baritone Horn in the school band along with ballet and jazz dance classes. This is Jeffrey’s 3rd year at the Ed Mascari Piano Studios.

Third grader Ally Yang next favored the audience with a performance of the wedding favorite Canon in D followed by Oh What a Beautiful Morning from Okalahoma and A Whole New World. Ally attends Bennett Hemingway Elementary in Natick MA. She’s been taking piano lessons for 2 years and also enjoys playing the recorder.

Matthew Tavares played next with At the Junior Prom and Live & Let Die from the James Bond movie. Matthew is 12 years old and attends the Kennedy Middle School in Natick. He plays trombone in the Kennedy Middle School Concert Band and has been taking piano lessons for 3 years.

We are proud to have a number of siblings studying at the studio including Andrew and Talia Salls. Andrew Salls was next performing a reprise of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. Andrew is 13 and is in 8th grade at the Walsh Middle School Framingham MA. He also plays Xylophone in WMS Concert Band and has been taking piano lessons for the past 6 years.

Next on the program was 11 year old CJ Anderson playing two tunes from the classic jazz repertoire Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Alexander’s Ragtime Band. Alexander’s Ragtime Band included a wonderful left hand shuffle bass. Eleven year old CJ is in the 5th grade at the Kennedy Middle School in Natick MA where he enjoys singing in the KMS Specialty Chorus. CJ has been taking piano lessons at the Ed Mascari Piano Studios for three years.

Becca Johnson performed Don’t Know Much, Bring Him Home and the beautiful tune Hedwig’s Theme by John Williams. She then got out her flute and played Can’t Help Loving That Man of Mine accompanied by Ed Mascari on the piano. Thirteen year old Becca goes to the Kennedy Middle School in Natick MA where she also plays the flute in the school Honors Band and participates in the school plays. Becca has been taking piano lessons for the past six years.

Eugenia Kovtun from our Hudson MA piano studio was next favoring the audience with two selections from the classical repertoire Waltz in A Minor I Love Paris by Chopin and Butterfly by Grieg. Eugenia attends the Hale Middle School in Stow MA where she also enjoys dance and theatre. She has been taking piano lessons for about four years and currently studies with Robert Canavello in Hudson MA.

Bringing the student portion of the recital to a rousing close was a performance by Natick High School senior Quentin Putnam. Quentin started his performance on piano playing and improvising on Keith Jarrett’s tune Memories of Tomorrow. He then got out his trumpet and performed Clifford Brown’s Sandu accompanied by Ed Mascari on the piano.

Quentin has been taking lessons at the Ed Mascari piano studio for the past 10 years. He also plays the trumpet in the Natick High School Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. Quentin will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana at Champaign in the fall.

The audience was then treated to a short faculty performance by Robert Canavello playing Schumann’s Preambule from Carnaval and wrapping up with a jazz selection by studio founder Ed Mascari on piano.
