Quality Piano Lessons for Adults
The Ed Mascari Piano Studios’ Unique Approach with Adult Piano Students
Over the years, we’ve found that adult piano students bring a wealth of personal and professional experience to their lessons. Unlike children, adult piano students often have well defined musical goals, desires, interests and preferences.
The Ed Mascari Piano Studios offer a unique learning approach for adult piano students. Our goal is to teach students in such a way that empowers them to enjoy playing the songs they want to play for their entire lives.
When students grasp the theory along with the song playing experience, they have music for life.
Our outstanding piano faculty has the necessary experience to guide you in achieving your musical goals. We can also help you form new musical goals and perhaps even discover new musical interests, if you like.

Returning Adult Piano Students
“After many years away from the piano, I contacted Ed after discovering his studio in my hometown of Hudson. I’m glad I made that call! Ed has resurrected my interest in this wonderful hobby. I have learned many great songs and styles under Ed’s guidance – show tunes have been my favorite! The flexibility of Ed’s program has been ideal for my work and family schedules. Looking forward to continuing this musical experience.”
Many of our adult piano students played the piano, or another musical instrument, as a child. These students were motivated to take piano lessons as a child by many different factors, but usually the main factor was parental involvement.
As an adult piano student you have the opportunity to develop a one-on-one relationship with your piano teacher. Your musical goals and aspirations are no longer defined by your parents.
In addition, you bring experience and maturity to all of your educational endeavors that will help you in understanding what is involved in learning to play the piano well.
We’ve found that most adult piano students want to understand how music works and even those with a background of many years of traditional piano lessons often do not have this knowledge.
The Ed Mascari Piano Studios’ practical, hands-on approach to teaching music theory is something that adults find fascinating, eye-opening and extremely helpful.

“Ed Mascari is an amazing piano teacher who has been an inspiration to me since I started taking lessons from him several years ago. Through his patience, creativity, passion for teaching, and knowledge, I am on my way to achieving my goal which is simply making music and sharing it with others.”
Beginning any new educational and potentially life changing experience is exciting for any adult student. You’re full of anticipation and have many expectations about what lies ahead.
In our decades of experience teaching adults at the Ed Mascari Piano Studios, we’ve found that adult piano students, especially if they are new to the piano, will sometimes look at the musical material as something that should be easy for them to master. “After all, if the kids can do it…”
After a few weeks of practice, many adults find that, while they have advanced in their music, it may not be as easy as they originally thought to make this progress. Some adults find it a challenge to accept this.
Because of this, we give to this important advice to adult beginners (which we don’t give to children or their parents): “The biggest challenge for the adult beginner is to make it through the first 6 months of lessons. Remaining patient and practicing consistently will yield great results and open up musical possibilities.”

Performance Opportunities for Adults
All of our adult piano students are invited to play in a yearly recital for adult students only. This optional performance opportunity is an informal occasion where adults share their musical accomplishments with their peers.
During our recitals, adult piano students are often able to get ideas for selections they might like to master next by hearing what other adult students are playing.
Whether you are a returning student or an adult who is new to the piano, a working adult or retired, this is the time to make your musical dreams come true.
“Non-critical, motivational, patient and knowledgeable: these are the elements that define Ed Mascari’s teaching style. As an adult striving to learn how to play the piano for the first time, I had many concerns about selecting the optimal teacher. Many teachers state they teach both children and adults, however, I wondered how adept they would be in meeting my individual needs. What impressed me most of all was Ed’s unique ability to take my choice of songs and adapt them to fit my skill level. I found it exhilarating to be able to play my favorite songs within months. From the first few lessons, I knew I had selected wisely; not only did I find a superb musician and teacher that met my needs, I also found a new friend.”
