Jerry,

Yes, that was my mother who taught at Halstead.
Were you one of her students?

Mr. Mascari,
Did your mother teach Spanish at a local private school in Yonkers, NY in the late 60's and early 70's?

Rafael,

The mention of the French lyricist of Autumn Leaves, Jacques Prevert, and his contribution to the career of the song's composer, Joseph Kosma is included in my blog article. Since my focus is on providing helpful information to pianists and piano students as well as music lovers in general, I share many of the aspects of the song which I have found to be interesting, important and inspiring. Thank you for reading and commenting even though my article was different from what your original search was for.

Keep up the reading and listening.

I'm just wondering that there was no mention of the French version of the song, yet though it's what I was looking for, I kept on reading 'coz the topic (subject) are all nice-to-know; or is it that I'm just a music lover albeit musically inclined...
Thank you.

Right, this is one of those songs that pops up in 2 different keys. I've performed the song in both g minor and e minor. It's in the key of e minor in the Real Book, but g minor in other places, including the Aebersold Volume 44, (entitled "Autumn Leaves").

Autumn Leaves is often performed in g minor / Bb Major so that that key signature has two flats.
This was the key that Charlie Banacos used when students started learning Autumn Leaves.
Hope that helps. Thanks for asking. Ed

One of the most beautiful versions is by the late folk/jazz singer Eva Cassidy. It is sparsely arranged with acoustic guitar only, and just make you weep.

I love this song, but always stay away from it because it is written in a sharp key. Not a good reason, I know, but there you have it :-)
Is it every played in a flat key? You seem to indicate above (B flat) that maybe it is.....
