When you want to find the best piano teacher to help you (or your child) achieve
your musical goals, you may be asking some of the following questions:
How long has Ed been teaching?
Since 1978, I have been teaching piano in my Natick Piano Studio to children and adults. In addition to this, I taught keyboard in the Music Theory Department at
Boston University where I was enrolled in the doctoral program.
In my younger years, I taught classroom music in Worcester, Clinton and Franklin.
Is this piano teacher versatile, flexible and patient?
I am happy to change the direction of one or more lessons when the student becomes inspiredor excited about a particular song, style of music or has created his own composition.
What kind of musical training does he have and how will it benefit me?

My two
Master of Music degrees from
New England Conservatory (Jazz Studies, 1992; Classical Composition, 1993) came long after my graduation from the
College of the Holy Cross (1971) where I was the first graduate to become a state certified public school music teacher. I have also studied piano and composition privately with some of the best teachers in the Boston area including: Tom McKinley,
Joe Maneri, Charlie Banacos, and
Lukas Foss.
Because my musical training has included both classroom and private studies with the experts, I have learned the most effective ways to help you reach your musical goals.
Does Ed have any performing experience and will it help me?

After 15 years of playing electric keyboards including the Hammond B-3 organ, I changed my focus to playing solo piano. Following 4 years of performing many
restaurant and club engagements and solo concerts, I played the grandpiano at the Radisson Hotel in Milford for 14 years. I also continue to play both pianoand organ every Sunday (since 1981) at the
Hartford Street Presbyterian Church.
Listen to a sound clip from a recent performance at the chruch. Ed is playing the piano and directing the choir.
Because of all of this performing experience, I have been able to explore, expand and experiment with an enormous repertoire of songs (show tunes, standards, poptunes, classical favorites and jazz selections). The solutions that I have discovered for my own piano playing will help you to become the pianist you want to be.
Is he good with children?
Children between the ages of 6 and 17 continue to find me friendly, understanding and willing to listen to them. Many of these young peoplestudy with me for five years or more, and several have even come back as adult students. Relationshipis important to me musically as well as personally, so I see each childas unique and precious. On a personal note, I raised 3 sons and nowhave 5 grandsons.
Will he understand my desire to learn to play the piano as an adult?
If you are an adult beginner, you'll be in good company, I teach peoplejust like you who say, "I always wanted to play the piano, now is the timeto start!" Fear not, I understand what you need and have the patience to take you through the process.
What if I already took lessons in the past, then what? Do I have to start as a beginner?
I will meet you where you are. If you need review, I can quickly figureout where and what you need. If you have a desire to play a certain type of music, I havethe versatility to help you with that too.
